- Areas, especially in marble, that have been filled with a matching color epoxy that may compromise the integrity and strength of the materials.
- Variations in veining, color, and movement that may be present in any natural materials. Materials that are referred to as "swirl" granites exhibit more of these types of natural occurrences.
- Fissures: small visible lines on the surface of the polished or honed slab which rarely indicate or affect the structural integrity of the product.
- Beauty marks: natural mineral deposit concentrations that can be seen as intensified spots or lines of color, lack of color, or areas with compromised polishing ability.
- Pitting: "pock marks" of varying size on the surface of a slab which are a result of the tightness of the material grain and the material's ability to accept a polished finish.
Granite, marble, travertine, limestone, slate, onyx and soapstone are products of nature. Geological pitting, dry fissures, ant trails, beauty marks, unusual veining, areas with high concentrations of color or lack of color, areas which will not take as high of a degree of polish as other areas or that will not take a polish at all, and variations of shade, pattern or color within the same slab or same bundle of slabs are inherent in natural stone and therefore are not reasons for rejection of stone once it is installed.
If fissures, pits or the natural characteristics of stone are viewed as defects, you may want to choose a granite that has less or consider a different countertop material. We would be glad to advise you in this regard.
Clients who choose limestone, marble, or honed granite for kitchen countertops need to realize that these exquisite stones frequently scratch and stain much more than polished granite. Thus these stones require additional care.
Due to the large volume of natural stone we purchase from our suppliers, Alpha Granite reserves the right to refuse any natural stone lot that does not meet the highest quality standards, including shipments containing heavy pitting or markings, faded coloration, or excessive cracking. We are committed to using only the best-valued products for your countertops.
Alpha Granite has no control over the existence of these irregularities noted above and consequently assumes no liability for any fissures or inconsistencies and variations in color and pattern found in the finished product originating from the raw material. Stone materials are porous by nature and, while highly resistant to staining and scratching, can be subject to stains and scratches. Alpha Granite makes no warranties, express or implied, as to stain resistance or imperviousness of the products installed. All slab stone countertop surfaces will be sealed prior to installation to aid in resistance to staining.
Stone countertops are not maintenance free and do need to be maintained properly. Maintenance may require sealing the stone and using the recommended stone surface cleaner.
